How to check Chevy Suburban tire pressure

If you’re not positive about how to determine your tire pressure, it can be found in your digital gauge cluster behind your steering wheel. You’ll get an alert from your Suburban’s tire pressure monitoring system in the form of a low tire pressure light when your tires are too low.

If you don’t have a newer Suburban, there’s nothing to worry about! You can easily check your tire pressure by using a

—an essential car maintenance tool to have handy! If you don’t have a tire pressure gauge on hand, a gas station’s air machine usually will have one built into the compressor hose!

You might also notice that your tires are too low just by the way your SUV is handling. If you’re noticing sluggish performance, wonky balance, or decreased steering response, it might just be that your tires are a bit low. It can never hurt to check!

How to tell if your Suburban needs new tires

The most obvious things to look out for are cracks or bulges in the tire. Low tread is also a clear indicator that you need a new tire.

To check your tread depth, try using the penny method. Take a penny, shove Lincoln head-first into the tread, and if you can still see the top of his noggin, your tread is definitely too low.

How to reset the Suburban tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) light

Sometimes you might notice a lingering TPMS warning light, even after you fill up your tires to the correct pressure. If this is happening, you might need to do a manual

Before you get too worried, drive your SUV around. Driving at least 50 mph for about 10 minutes will often be all your vehicle needs to get the TPMS light to turn off.

If this doesn’t work, you probably have to recalibrate the tire pressure monitoring system. Here’s how to do it. You’ll need a GM TPMS Relearn Tool. They cost about $150, but you can always just take your Suburban into the shop and get a pro to do this for you.

For a 2022 Suburban, look for the arrow buttons on the right side of your steering wheel. Hold the button in the center of these arrows while the SUV is on and you’re on the tire pressure info screen.

Now you can take your relearn tool around to the tires. Starting with the driver’s side and moving clockwise, point the relearn tool at the tire, press the button, and wait for a beep. That beep indicates that the monitor in that tire has been reset.

For the new Suburban models, the lights next to the tire you’re supposed to check will even light up, guiding you to the next tire. Once you’ve done all four tires you’ll hear a double beep, indicating that you’ve completed the process.
