How to reset the Chevy Traverse tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) light

It can be frustrating if your TPMS light remains on even after you’ve filled the tires to the proper pressure. If this happens to you, you may need to

reset your TPMS

Based on model year

For Chevy Traverses with model years 2009 or 2010, the reset process is fairly simple.

Step 1: Turn your key to the “on” position.

Step 2: Simultaneously hold down the lock and unlock buttons on your keyfob until you hear the car horn honk twice—this signals that your Traverse has entered tire learning mode, and a message saying so will appear on the dash.

Step 3: Beginning with the driver’s side front tire, decrease or increase the air pressure until you hear the horn “chirp.” Move clockwise around the vehicle repeating this step for each tire.

Step 4: Turn the ignition off and adjust the tire pressure in all four tires.

For model years 2011 to 2017, the process is the same, except instead of decreasing/increasing the air pressure, you will need to place a TPMS relearn tool against the side wall of the tire near the valve stem.

For model years 2018 to the present, there are two different ways to reset the TPMS. However, you will need a TPMS relearn tool for both.

For base-level display

If your Traverse has the base-level display, the steps are as follows:

Step 1: Turn the key to the “on” position.

Step 2: Press the navigation button and then select INFO.

Step 3: Find the TIRE PRESSURE menu and then press and hold the ✓ button to enter learn mode.

Step 4: Beginning with the driver’s side front tire, work your way clockwise around the car with the TPMS relearn tool.

Step 5” Turn off the ignition and adjust the pressure in all four tires.

For Uplevel display

If your Chevy Traverse has the Uplevel display, follow these steps:

Step 1: Hold down the start button for five seconds without pressing the brake.

Step 2: Use the navigation button to select the INFO menu.

Step 3: Locate the TIRE PRESSURE menu and press the ✓ button to enter learn mode. Then, follow steps 4-5 above.

If these procedures don’t work to reset your TPMS, you may need to take your car to a professional for further diagnostic work.
