background
The engine oil capacity for the Nissan Juke is 4.7 quarts for the 2011 to 2014 models and 4.5 quarts for any model 2015 or newer.
The U.S. production run for the Nissan Juke ended in 2018, handing the keys to its more contemporary successor, the
Nissan Kicks
.
However, if you’re not ready to move on from the funky style of the Nissan Juke, you’ll need to know proper oil maintenance to ensure it can parade you around town for many years and miles to come.
Follow along as we cover everything you need to know, including engine oil capacity, what type of oil to use, and how to perform an oil change yourself! Let’s get started.

Nissan Juke engine oil capacity

The engine oil capacity for the Nissan Juke depends on the model year. If your Juke is from 2011 to 2014, you’ll need 4.7 quarts of oil. If your Juke is 2015 or newer, you’ll only need 4.5 quarts.

What kind of oil does a Nissan Juke need?

The type of oil you’ll use also varies by model year for the Nissan Juke. You’ll need to use:
  • 5W-30 fully synthetic oil for the 2011 to 2014 models
  • 0W-20 fully synthetic oil for any model 2015 or newer
  • 5W-30 fully synthetic oil for the
    Nismo RS
trim level, regardless of model year
The numbers and letters make up your oil’s viscosity rating, which defines its thinness or thickness at a range of temperatures. To elaborate, the front number represents the viscosity rating when the oil is 0°F, and the second at 212°F. The “W” stands for winter, indicating that the oil will perform well in cold weather conditions.
Every car has its viscosity preferences for optimum performance, so it’s essential to get it right! Consult the “technical and consumer information” section of your
owner’s manual
to confirm the oil type, because using the wrong oil can reduce fuel efficiency and may even cause engine damage.

How often to change the oil on a Nissan Juke

When using fully synthetic oil, Nissan recommends
changing the oil
on your Juke every 7,500 to 10,000 miles.
Failure to change your oil as scheduled could lead to
severe engine damage
. And considering the Nissan Juke is no longer in production, the parts to repair the damaged engine may no longer be widely available. So if you want to help the groovy style of your Juke live on, we recommend checking your oil once a month.
If your oil is a dark brown color (clean oil is a golden amber color) or your fluid levels are below the line on the dipstick, it may be time for an oil change—regardless of how many miles it's been. Other, more serious indicators you should keep an eye out for are strange smells, smoke, odd noises, performance deviations, and your
oil pressure light
turning on.

How to change your oil and oil filter

With rising labor rates at the mechanic, it’s becoming more and more worthwhile to learn how to change your oil at home. At this point, you’re looking at $25 to $75 in savings by doing it yourself.
So if you want to keep more of your hard-earned money in your pocket, here are the step-by-step instructions for how to change the oil on a Nissan Juke:
  1. Gather materials: A socket wrench, drain pan, filter wrench, replacement filter, and Nissan’s recommended engine oil with the correct viscosity rating.
  2. Prepare the car: Turn on the engine and let your Juke run until it reaches operating temperature (about five minutes). Then, turn off the engine and prop open the hood.
  3. Changing the oil: Follow these instructions.
  • Remove the oil fill cap.
  • You’ll want to remove the oil drain bolt and washer from underneath the engine, which will drain the old oil into a pan below.
  • Remove the old oil filter and let the oil drain until the drip stops.
  • Install the new oil filter.
  • Replace the oil drain bolt using a new washer and tighten it to 29 lb-ft.
  • Refill the engine with 4.5 or 4.7 quarts of oil (depending on the model year).
  • Replace the fill cap.
  1. Testing and disposal: The final touches!
  • Run your Juke’s engine for a minute or two and observe for any leaks.
  • Use your dipstick to ensure you’ve added enough oil.
  • Go to your local recycling center to dispose of the old oil.
  • All done!
