Early on in the RX 350’s production, it came with a 17.2-gallon gas tank. This was in the 1999 and 2000 model years. After that, the vehicle had a 19.8-gallon tank for model years 2001 to 2003. By 2004, Lexus settled on a 19.2-gallon tank for the RX 350—for the most part.
Once Lexus started making a hybrid model, it attached a 17.2-gallon tank for the hybrid vehicles while keeping the standard 19.2-gallon tank on traditional gas-powered models.
How to check your Lexus RX 350’s gas tank size
If you’re not so sure about your car’s gas tank size, there are a few easy ways to measure it for yourself.
Measure the gas tank
If you’re willing to crawl underneath your car, you can measure the exterior of the tank to figure out its fuel capacity. You’ll just need a measuring tape and a calculator.
To get started, climb under your car’s fuel tank and measure the tank’s height, width, and length—be sure to get the figures in inches. Then, take each of these measurements and multiply them together. Then, divide that total by 231, which is the number of cubic inches that go into a gallon.
The end number will tell you how many gallons of gas the tank can hold.
Check your owner’s manual
If you don’t feel like getting your hands dirty, or you just like doing things the easy way, you can also check your owner’s manual for your car’s gas tank size. If you’ve misplaced your owner’s manual, you can view a digital copy or even order a hard copy from the

site. Drive till empty, then fill it up
Feeling adventurous? You could try driving your car until the fuel gauge says your tank is empty. Just don’t go too far on E, or else you’ll end up stranded.
Then, take your car to the gas station for a fill-up. This should tell you how much your empty (or almost empty) tank can hold.
