What does gasoline look like?

I have an old gas can sitting in my garage, but I can’t tell if the gas is still good or not. What does gasoline look like?

So, what does gasoline look like? Fresh gasoline will be translucent, like water. It should be a clear or slightly amber color.
You could compare it side-by-side with fresh gasoline in clear containers to check how it might be doing. As gasoline gets older and goes bad, the color darkens, and it might even take on a sour smell.
Gasoline typically has a shelf life of three to six months. If you suspect it’s been sitting in storage for a long time, don’t use it. To safely dispose of old gasoline, take it to the proper local hazardous waste disposal center.
