How to Get Apple CarPlay on a Lexus GX 460
The Lexus GX 460 didn’t get Apple CarPlay functionality until 2022, but you can retrofit an earlier model by going to an aftermarket installer.

The Lexus GX 460 finally gained Apple CarPlay functionality for the 2022 model year. But if you’ve got an earlier GX 460 and want CarPlay on it, you’ll have to pay for an aftermarket upgrade to your infotainment system—as the GX 460 is not eligible for Lexus’ Apple CarPlay upgrade plan.

How to add Apple CarPlay to an earlier Lexus GX 460 model
Aside from ditching your pre-2022 Lexus GX 460 and buying a 2022 or newer model year, there is another way to upgrade your older GX 460 infotainment system with Apple CarPlay. But it’ll cost you.
There are many aftermarket sellers out there who offer modules that upgrade GX 460 models made between 2014-2020 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto—but prices for these upgrades can range anywhere between $400 to more than $1,100!
By comparison, Lexus’ program to upgrade older eligible vehicles with Apple CarPlay costs just $199. Unfortunately, the GX 460 is excluded from eligibility at this time.
Most of the aftermarket units that upgrade your infotainment system are plug-and-play, meaning all you have to do is hook the unit up through your AUX port and your SUV’s head unit/radio, but the exact process can vary between model years.
How to enable Apple CarPlay in an earlier Lexus GX 460
Exactly how you enable Apple Carplay or Android Auto in a pre-2022 Lexus GX 460 depends on the kind of aftermarket module you install. The best way to be sure is by consulting the instruction manual that accompanies your module.
That said, the process should work more or less the same to how it would in vehicles that already have built-in CarPlay capabilities:
- On your vehicle’s touchscreen, go to: Menu > Setup > General > Apple CarPlay > On
