2007 Toyota Sienna engine oil capacity

First things first: just how much oil are we talking about here?
The 2007 Toyota Sienna has an oil capacity of 6.4 quarts or 6.1 liters. This is the amount you’ll need with a new filter, and it’s recommended that you change your oil filter every time you change your oil. The engine for the 2007 model year is a 3.5-liter V6, but that “3.5 liter” is the engine’s displacement, not its oil capacity. The displacement refers to the amount of volume those six cylinders take up, and that number is not interchangeable with the oil capacity!

What type of oil does my 2007 Toyota Sienna need?

Okay—6.4 quarts of what? Canola, olive, peanut…? Just kidding—do not put those oils in your car. But if you’ve ever shopped for engine oil, you’ll know that there are many options. They’re not all the same, so getting the correct one is important.
As far as the brand goes, Toyota recommends Toyota Genuine motor oil or a premium-quality equivalent. Look for one that is labeled SAE 5W-30. This is what Toyota recommends in the Sienna’s
owner’s manual
, and you want to adhere to their recommendations.
“SAE” stands for the Society of Automotive Engineers, and “5W-30” refers to the oil’s viscosity, or how thin it is. The “5W” tells us that this oil has a low viscosity in cold (winter) weather, and the 30 means that it also stays thin when the temperature rises.
The 2007 Toyota Sienna’s manual states that this is the ideal oil for good fuel economy and starting in cold weather. It also states that if 5W-30 isn’t available, you can use 10W-30—but you have to switch back to 5W-30 at your next change.

How often to change the oil on your 2007 Toyota Sienna

Toyota recommends changing your 2007 Sienna’s oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles if you use conventional motor oil. You can go 7,500 to 10,000 miles between oil changes using synthetic oil. If you don’t put a lot of miles on your minivan, then changing the oil every six months is a good rule of thumb.
That being said, those are just the recommended ranges. And as they say in the commercials, your mileage may vary. It’s a wise habit to check your oil level regularly, like once a month. You should also be on the lookout for any signs that your oil is due for a change:
  • New engine noises, smells, or exhaust
  • Poor vehicle performance
  • Motor oil that feels gritty or has debris in it
  • Motor oil that is black or dark brown
If you notice these things, you may be due for an
oil change

Changing your oil and oil filter

Okay! Enough chat—the time has come to
change your oil
! Start by getting your tools and equipment together. You need a socket wrench, a drain pan, and a filter wrench that fits your oil filter. You’ll also need a new filter and 6.4 quarts of premium 5W-30 engine oil. You’ll also want a few old rags—this is dirty business!
Start your Sienna and let it run until it reaches normal temperature. This should only take a few minutes in typical weather. Once things are warmed up, turn the engine off, pop the hood, and follow these dance steps:
  • Remove the oil cap and put it somewhere safe
  • Get below the engine, remove the oil drain bolt and washer, and let the old oil drain into the pan
  • Remove the old oil filter and wait until all the old oil has drained out
  • Install your new filter
  • Replace the oil drain bolt using a new washer and tighten it to 29 lb-ft
  • Refill the engine with the new oil and screw the oil cap back on
Start your Sienna up again and let it run for around 30 seconds—this will allow the fresh oil to circulate and permeate the new filter. Use the dipstick to see if you need more oil, and top it off if needed. Add additional oil slowly, and be careful not to overfill it. Let the vehicle run for a few minutes, and watch closely for leaks. If all is well, the
oil pressure light
should turn off.
Last but not least is the clean up! Never toss old oil in your garbage bins, dump it on the ground, or pour it down a storm drain. Instead, place it in a sealed container and take it to your nearest recycling center—many auto parts stores will accept used motor oil for recycling.
