If your Dodge Journey has a problem with its climate control system, you might experience issues like cold air blowing from vents on one side of the car while hot air blows from the opposite side. In the event of A/C malfunctions, you can reset your Dodge Journey’s climate control system by removing and replacing the HVAC/ECAS fuse.
The Dodge Journey has relatively average ratings for reliability, but that doesn’t mean you’ll never encounter a problem with your car. And occasionally, the HVAC system fails. If this happens, you can take your car to a mechanic for an expensive fix, or you can reset the system yourself for free.
The process is easy, and

Dodge Journey climate control reset instructions

Although many things can cause your car’s climate control system to malfunction, electrical problems are one of the most common issues. Electrical issues can result in problems like hot air blowing from the driver-side air vents while cold air blows from the other side. The easiest fix—and the first thing you should try—is resetting the HVAC system
Fortunately, this is an easy DIY
car repair
project that you can do in your own garage or driveway. This job requires no tools and is simple enough for a novice to do. Essentially, you will be performing the car version of a computer reset.
Step 1: Park your car in a secure location and ensure the engine is off.
Step 2: Open the hood and find your car’s fuse box. It should be located near the battery and looks like a black plastic container. If you can’t find the fuse box, check your owner’s manual for its location.
Step 3: Locate and gently remove the HVAC fuse. The inside of the fuse box lid should contain a diagram of the fuses. Pull the fuse straight up and avoid wiggling it too much.
Step 4: Wait at least 10 seconds before reinstalling the fuse. While you wait, inspect the fuse for damage and ensure that it’s not blown. Carefully reinstall the fuse.
Step 5: Turn the car on, but don’t touch anything for at least 40 seconds. The climate control system needs to recalibrate itself, and touching any buttons or controls could interrupt the process.
Completing these steps should reset your Dodge Journey’s climate control system. However, if you still have issues with your car’s A/C, you’ll need to do some more troubleshooting.

Other reasons why your Dodge Journey A/C isn’t working

Resetting your vehicle’s climate control system often fixes A/C problems. However, this isn’t a guaranteed fix. Your car may have another problem if the reset doesn’t solve your issues.
Here is a list of some more things that can cause problems for your Dodge Journey’s climate control system.

Malfunctioning HVAC fuse

If the fuse itself is bad, removing and reinstalling the HVAC fuse won’t work. When you pull the fuse, inspect it for any signs of corrosion or other damage. If the fuse appears damaged or dirty, replace it and then follow steps 4-5

Blend door actuator malfunction

A blend door actuator malfunction is another common cause of problems with vehicle climate control systems. Also known as the HVAC actuator, the blend door actuator is a small motor that controls the vents of your car’s climate control system.
When your car has a blend door malfunction, it’s common to notice the air blowing from one side of the car is hotter or colder than the other side. If you suspect your Dodge Journey has this problem, you’ll need to have a mechanic diagnose and repair the issue

A/C refrigerant leak

Refrigerant leaks are a frequent cause of problems with vehicle air conditioning systems. If you notice your car’s air conditioning is growing consistently warmer, it might be time for an
A/C recharge

A/C compressor failure

The heart of your Dodge Journey’s HVAC system is an
A/C compressor
. Together with a condenser, the A/C compressor works to cool the air that enters your car. However, these parts occasionally suffer from broken belts, seized pulleys, and relay failures
Your Journey’s HVAC system will not function properly if the A/C compressor is damaged.

Faulty A/C control module

An electrical component known as the A/C control module allows you to adjust your vehicle’s temperature and control the airflow speed. It is located behind your A/C instrument panel in the dashboard. If the A/C control module fails, you’ll need to remove the instrument panel to inspect and replace the part.

How to diagnose a Dodge Journey climate control malfunction

Unfortunately, this is not an exhaustive list of things that can cause problems with your Dodge’s climate control system. Many things—from a loose connector to a faulty wiring harness and a bad blower motor to a simple problem with the cabin air filter—can cause your car’s HVAC system to malfunction.
Because HVAC problems can have a variety of causes, it’s important to identify the issue at its root. For example, if your car has a check engine light on, the first step should always be to inspect the codes with an OBDII code reader. Many of these tools have a function allowing you to troubleshoot issues with or without an
OBD trouble code
.
Alternatively, you can take your car to the dealership or an auto repair shop and let the professionals take care of it. However, before you settle on a shop, make sure the mechanics are certified and trained in HVAC repairs, as A/C refrigerant is toxic and working with these systems requires expert knowledge.
