background
If the battery in your Acura RDX is disconnected or replaced, it may leave you in need of a radio code before you can access the sound system again. The radio code can be found on a sticker in the glove box, owner’s manual, or door jamb, or you can look it up through Acura’s online radio code portal with your VIN and radio serial number.
If you’ve never heard of a radio code before, you might be stumped. Why do you have to enter a code to play your tunes? You’ve never had to think about the mechanics of your sound system before. But as soon as you replace your car’s battery, you’re left in silence and confusion while you ponder the meaning behind the “CODE” message on your screen.
Knowing your Acura RDX radio code will be the balm you need in this situation. So,

Why do I need an Acura RDX radio code?

While it may seem like nothing more than a headache and the loss of your carefully curated summer playlist, the need for a radio code is actually a good thing. Radio codes act as a security measure against stereo theft. Your radio sits highly among the most-likely-to-be-stolen car parts, so a radio code adds a layer of protection.
Unfortunately, though, the security system that triggers the need for a radio code won’t be able to tell the difference between a dead battery and hastily yanked-out battery cords. This means you may need to enter the right
Acura
radio code before you have access to your playlist again.

How to find your Acura RDX radio code

In better news, finding the Acura RDX radio code is a relatively simple process. The radio code is likely listed on a sticker somewhere around your car. Check the glove box, the underside of the engine compartment fuse box, the owner’s manual, the door jamb or trunk jamb, or the vehicle’s maintenance journal
You’ll be looking for a sticker with “Anti-Theft Radio Identification, or something similar, with two codes on it. The first code should only be five digits—this is your radio code. The other series of digits is the radio serial number.

How to look up your Acura RDX radio code

So the sticker is nowhere to be found, the owner’s manual is lost, and you’re perhaps wondering if you’ll ever hear music again. Have no fear! Gather your
Acura's vehicle identification number (VIN)
and the radio serial number, and you can look up your RDX's radio code.
You can find the 17-digit VIN at the base of the windshield, on your vehicle’s registration, your insurance card, or on an Acura Financial Services statement
To find the radio serial number of Acura RDX models from 2001 or earlier, you’ll need to check the side or back of the actual audio device.
For Acura RDX models crafted after 2001, you’ll need to turn your ignition on, turn the radio off, hold down preset buttons 1 and 6, then turn the radio on. The radio serial number will appear on the display in two sections: the first will show the letter U and four digits, while the second shows the letter L and four more digits.
Drop the letters and put the digits together to find the radio serial number. For example, let’s say you see “U4400” and “L0001”. Your radio serial number would be 44000001.
After you’ve taken note of both the VIN and the radio serial number, head to
Acura’s online lookup
or call (800) 382-2238 between Monday and Friday from 6:00 am-5:00 pm PT to find your Acura RDX radio code. You could also call up your local Acura dealership to schedule an appointment where a technician will be able to tell you your radio code!
