Five quarts of SAE 0W-16 engine oil (you’ll only use 4.8 quarts)

A jack and jack stands (to raise your RAV4)

Wheel chocks (to prevent movement)

An oil catch container

A funnel

A new 2021 Toyota RAV4 filter

A new oil drain bolt washer

A 10mm socket with a ¼” drive ratchet

A 14mm socket with a ⅜” drive ratchet

Once you’ve gathered your materials, warm up the engine by idling it for a few minutes or taking it for a short drive. Next, follow these steps:

Get your RAV4 on jacks, using the wheel chocks on the rear tires to prevent rolling

Remove the oil fill cap

After you’ve changed your oil, let the engine run for about 30 seconds. Doing this before checking the oil level gives you a better idea of how much you’ll still need to top off. Using the dipstick, check if your oil needs to be topped off, then fill as needed. The oil pressure light should turn off on your car’s dashboard if you’ve done it right.

Don’t forget to clean up! Some oil retailers will accept old oil, or you can take it to your local recycling center. Old engine oil should never be thrown in the garbage or poured onto the ground.
