2016 Toyota Sienna engine oil capacity

The 2016 Toyota Sienna has an engine oil capacity of 6.4 quarts or 6.1 liters
Your engine oil capacity is not to be confused with the engine’s displacement, which would be 3.5 liters for the Sienna’s V6. The engine’s 3.5-liter displacement refers to the volume that the six cylinders take up, while oil capacity refers to the amount of oil required to keep the engine processing.

What kind of oil does a 2016 Toyota Sienna need?

Your 2016 Toyota Sienna will take 6.4 quarts of the owner's manual recommended Toyota Genuine Motor Oil SAE 5W-30 or an equivalent ILSAC multigrade engine oil. This means you cannot simply buy just any ten-quart bottle of engine oil. You’ll need to look for the manufacturer's recommendation or equivalent multigrade oil.
To break it down a little bit, the numbers on the oil grade refer to the oil’s thickness or viscosity, while the “W” represents its winter durability. The number 5 before the “W” implies that the oil has a low viscosity of 5 at 0°F, while the number 30 shows that it’s quite thin at a blazing temperature of 212°F. SAE stands for Society of Automotive Engineers, also known as the oil viscosity coders.
With this said, you’ll want to fill your 2016 Sienna with oil that has a 5W-30 rating because it will perform efficiently under cold or hot weather conditions, which will prevent issues with your engine. Multigrade oil performs well under all types of temperatures, so if you can’t find genuine Toyota motor oil, you can opt for a multigrade filler.

How often to change oil on a 2013 Acura MDX

Now that you know your engine oil type and capacity, you can move on to actually changing the oil! That is, if it’s time for an oil change.
Toyota recommends you change the oil in your 2016 Sienna every 3,000 to 5,000 miles if you’re using conventional oil. This mileage range will probably keep you going for around six months, although it could be shorter or longer depending on your driving habits.
If you opt for synthetic oil, which has a longer lifespan than conventional oil, you can expect to perform an oil change every 7,500 to 10,000—so around once every 12 months
To be sure that your engine oil is at a good and healthy level, you can check your engine oil on a regular basis. Monthly checkups can help you spot the following signs that it's time for an oil change:
  • Dark brown or black oil (Clean oil is light brown or amber, like tea. Dirty oil looks like soda.)
  • Coarse or gritty motor oil
  • Strange noises from the engine
  • Unusual smells, (oil, smoke, or burning)
  • Differences in your vehicle’s performance

How to change your oil and oil filter

Once you know it’s time for an oil change, you can begin the process by gathering a socket wrench, a filter wrench, a drain pan, and your engine oil.
Park your vehicle on a flat surface and apply the parking brake, then start your car and let the engine idle until it reaches normal operating temperature. Next, turn the engine off and wait a few minutes for the oil to drain to the bottom of the engine. Now, open the hood and follow these steps:
  1. Remove the oil filler cap by turning it counterclockwise
  2. Put your drain under the drain plug, located beneath the engine
  3. Use a wrench to remove the drain plug—the oil will begin draining
  4. At this time, you can change the oil filter
  5. Remove the oil filter with a filter wrench and replace it with a new one
  6. Once the oil has drained, clean and reinstall the drain plug and a new washer, and securely tighten it (tightening torque: 25 Nm or 18 ft-lb)
  7. Refill the engine with fresh oil
  8. Reinstall the oil filler cap
Once you’ve completed these steps, you can turn your engine on and check for any leaks from the oil filter or drain plug. If everything looks secure, turn off the engine and wait five to ten minutes before checking the oil level with the dipstick. If your oil maintenance light was on, you can now go ahead and
reset the maintenance system
To conclude your oil change, you’ll want to ensure that you safely dispose of the old oil. Avoid dumping the oil on the ground or in your garbage disposal. Instead, take it to your local recycling center for safe disposal.
