2015 Toyota Corolla engine oil capacity

The 2015 Corolla is powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine with an oil capacity of 4.4 quarts, or 4.2 liters. Oil capacity should not be confused with your engine’s displacement volume. The Corolla's engine takes up 1.8 liters of volume, but 4.4 quarts of oil is the required amount for your oil change.

What kind of oil does a 2015 Toyota Corolla need?

Using the wrong engine oil can lead to major long-term damage down the line, so it’s important to use the correct oil type. To avoid any additional wear and tear on your Corolla’s engine, Toyota recommends using a fully synthetic SAE 0W-20 engine oil like their genuine Toyota motor oil—but what do these characters actually mean?
This applies to the oil’s viscosity, or thickness. The number 0 indicates that the oil has a low viscosity at 0°F while the “W” stands for winter. And the number 20 means that it can handle extreme temperatures of up to 212°F. To put it another way, you need to look for an engine oil with those ratings so it will perform at its best under cold weather conditions.

How often to change oil on a 2015 Toyota Corolla

Now that you’ve determined your 2015 Corolla’s oil capacity and type, it’s time to finally
change your oil
! If you’re using fully synthetic oil for your Toyota as recommended, experts suggest changing full synthetic oil out every 7,500 to 10,000 miles. Though if you’re using conventional oil, you should really be changing it out every 3,000 to 5,000 miles
Considering that this is an extensive range, you should check your oil level frequently—about once a month or so. You’ll know it’s time to change your oil with the following warning signs:
  • The motor oil changes from a light brown or amber color to dark brown or black
  • The motor oil starts to feel coarse or gritty
  • Unusual noises
    coming from the engine
  • Noticeable odors, like oil, smoke, or burning
  • Changes in your vehicle’s performance

How to change your oil and oil filter

When you’re ready to change your oil out, you’ll need to gather the following tools:
  • Socket wrench
  • Drain pan
  • Filter wrench
  • Replacement oil filter
  • 4.4 quarts of fully synthetic 0W-20 engine oil
Before you pop open the hood, -run the engine for about 5 minutes until your Corolla reaches normal operating temperature. Once your engine is warmed up, turn it back off and execute the following steps:
  • Open the hood and take off the oil cap.
  • Place your drain pan underneath the engine and remove the oil drain bolt and washer to let the old oil drain out.
  • Remove the old oil filter and continue to let the old oil drain.
  • Install the new filter after all the old oil has completely drained out.
  • Remove the oil drain plug and replace it with a new washer, then tighten it to 29 lb-ft.
  • Pour fresh oil into the engine and use a dipstick to make sure you’ve poured enough.
  • Screw the oil cap back on, turn your engine on again, and check for any leaks.
After changing your oil, it’s a good idea to turn on your car and let your engine run for about 30 seconds before you check the oil level. This will give you a more accurate measurement, and you’ll be able to top it off if necessary.
Has the
oil pressure light
disappeared from your dashboard? If so, then congrats! You've successfully changed your Corolla’s engine oil.
