2015 Jeep Wrangler engine oil capacity

Before anything else, you’ll need to know how much engine oil a 2015 Jeep Wrangler needs.
Your 2015 Wrangler comes with a 3.6-liter V6 engine with an oil capacity of 6 quarts or 5.6 liters. Seeing that a 3.6-liter engine needs 5.6 liters of oil may be confusing, so let’s break it down.
3.6 liters refers to the volume taken up by the engine cylinders and is known as the engine’s displacement. 5.6 liters or 6 quarts refer to the engine oil capacity, or how much oil the engine needs. The two values are not interchangeable so be aware of that as you work with them.

What kind of oil does a 2015 Jeep Wrangler need?

So, a 2015 Jeep Wrangler needs 6 quarts of oil. Now we need to discuss what kind of oil you’ll need to fill it with.
Each car engine works with a specific oil, so you can't just head to an auto store and grab the first bottle of cheap oil within reach. The owner's manual for a 2015 Jeep Wrangler recommends an oil grade of premium 5W-20 synthetic motor oil for your engine.
The oil grade describes an oil's viscosity in cold and hot temperatures—the 5 refers to low viscosity and thin oil in cold temperatures, denoted by the W, which stands for "winter". The 20 refers to a higher density (though by no means the highest) in hot temperatures.
Those specific ratings are the ideal conditions for a 2015 Jeep Wrangler to perform well in cold weather and at the engine's normal operating temperature, creating less wear on the engine over time.
Synthetic motor oil is recommended for its longer-lasting effectiveness which increases the time between oil changes.

How often to change oil on a 2015 Jeep Wrangler

Now that you’re all geared up with the correct amount and type of oil, we can get into the
oil change
Jeep recommends that their drivers change their engine oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. This metric may differ depending on how much you drive and on what terrain. So if you’re tearing up the trails every weekend, you may need an oil change sooner, and if you don’t drive all that often, you can probably go longer in between oil changes.
Whichever driving class you fall in, it’s a good idea to check your oil level and quality regularly—about once a month—to look for signs of bad oil. Here are some things to keep an eye out for:
  • Dark oil—clean motor oil is amber, while dirty oil looks dark brown or black
  • Debris or sludge texture
  • Unfamiliar sounds around the engine while driving or idling
  • A burning or
    oil smell
  • Decreased vehicle performance

How to change your oil and oil filter

When you've reached your mileage limit and are ready for an oil change, grab these tools:
  • Socket wrench
  • Drain pan
  • Filter wrench
  • New oil filter
  • Six quarts of premium 5W-20 synthetic engine oil
Before starting, take your car for a short drive to warm up the engine to its normal operating temperature. Then, turn your engine off and get under the hood to follow these steps:
  • Remove the oil fill cap and position the drain pan underneath the oil drain bolt
  • Use the socket wrench to remove the oil drain bolt and let the oil begin to drain
  • Use the filter wrench to remove the old oil filter while the remaining oil drains out
  • Install the new oil filter once the old oil is completely drained
  • Replace the oil drain bolt
  • Pour six new 5W-20 synthetic oil quarts into the engine and replace the oil fill cap
After changing your oil, it’s a good idea to turn on your car and let your engine run for about 30 seconds before you check the oil level. This will give you a more accurate measurement, and you’ll be able to top it off if necessary.
That’s it! Once everything is back in place, turn your engine on and make sure nothing is leaking.
Then, dispose of the old oil by pouring it into a sealable container and dropping it off at your local recycling and disposal center. Don’t dump oil on the ground or in your trashcan.
