While regularly changing your oil is an unavoidable part of owning a 2015 Honda Odyssey, it doesn’t mean you have to pay someone else to do it for you. Learning to perform basic auto maintenance tasks at home will allow you to reduce your annual vehicle-related expenses considerably.
With that being said, you can’t change your oil without first knowing how much oil you actually need—that’s why licensed broker and

2015 Honda Odyssey engine oil capacity

If you plan on changing your 2015 Honda Odyssey’s oil yourself, you’ll need to know the oil capacity to avoid over- or under-filling the reservoir. The 2015 Honda Odyssey’s 3.5L V6 engine has a total oil capacity of 4.5 quarts, which amounts to roughly 4.25 liters.
This is not to be confused with your engine’s displacement, or the 3.5-liter space occupied by your engine cylinders—the two are not interchangeable and will result in an under-filled engine should you confuse them.

What kind of oil does the 2015 Honda Odyssey need?

Your 2015 Honda Odyssey requires full-synthetic 0W-20 motor oil to function properly—but if you don’t know what those numbers actually mean, we’ve included a rough overview below.
The number before the “W—a “0,” in this case—refers to the oil’s winter rating, or how thick/thin the oil is in extremely low temperatures. A “0” tells us that the oil will have a low viscosity even in the dead of winter.
The “20,” on the other hand, tells us what the oil’s viscosity is like once the engine reaches normal operating temperatures of 212°F or higher. Any oil rated as “20” will still be thin even at these high temps.
Of course, there are many oils rated as 0W-20, which can make choosing one difficult. To make things easier, we’ve included three of our favorites below:
  • What’s recommended: Honda Genuine Motor Oil SAE 0W-20
  • Second-best: Mobil 1 - Full Synthetic Engine Oil 0W-20
  • For high-mileage vehicles: Mobil 1 - High Mileage 0W-20 Full Synthetic Motor Oil

How often to change the oil on a 2015 Honda Odyssey

Because the 2015 Honda Odyssey takes full synthetic motor oil, you can go 7,500 to 10,000 miles between oil changes, meaning you’ll only need to change it about once a year.
Of course, if you want to avoid unintentionally damaging your engine, you should still check your oil once or twice a month before you reach the suggested intervals.
If you start to notice any of the following, you may need to change your oil sooner rather than later:
  • Your engine oil has become grainy or feels gritty
  • The oil has changed from dark amber to a dark brown or black
  • Vehicle performance starts to wane
  • You
    smell oil
or smoke coming from the engine bay
  • The engine begins producing unusual noises

How to change your oil and oil filter

You will require an oil drain pan, a socket wrench, and a filter wrench if you decide to change your oil and oil filter at home—and don’t forget to purchase five quarts of full-synthetic 0W-20 motor oil and a new filter.
Once you have all the required equipment, start your car by turning the key in the ignition and let it run for a few minutes until the engine reaches normal operating temperatures. This should only take four to five minutes under normal circumstances..
As soon as the engine reaches the correct temperature, turn it off, open the hood, and do the following:
  1. Locate the oil reservoir, then remove the oil fill cap.
  2. Put your drain pan in position directly below the oil reservoir drain hole. Use the socket wrench to remove the drain bolt and washer. Let the oil drain.
  3. As the oil drains, remove the oil filter with the filter wrench.
  4. Install a new filter.
  5. Once the oil finishes draining, replace the drain bolt and fit a new washer into place. You will need to consult your owner’s manual for the manufacturer’s tightness recommendations.
  6. Put fresh oil in your engine and screw the oil cap back into place.
After adding fresh oil to the reservoir, check with a dipstick to see if it reaches the maximum fill line. If the oil level looks good, turn your car on and let the engine warm up. Check for leaks..
If you did everything correctly, your 2015 Honda Odyssey’s
oil pressure/warning light
should turn off automatically.
