2015 Dodge Dart SXT 2.4 engine oil capacity

The Dodge Dart SXT’s 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine holds 5.5 quarts of oil

What kind of oil does a 2015 Dodge Dart SXT 2.4 need?

The 2015 Dart SXT’s owner’s manual calls for premium grade 0W-20 motor oil. Using the wrong kind of oil can ruin an engine, so it’s vital to stick to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
The numbers in the oil grade refer to the oil’s viscosity, or how thick it is, and the “W” stands for winter. The number 0 before “W” indicates that this oil’s got a low viscosity under very cold conditions, while the number 20 means that it’s also relatively thin in hot weather.
An oil with this weight will perform well in cold weather and its low viscosity means less wear and tear on your engine. Look for an oil that has the American Petroleum Institute (API) seal on it and is labeled as a premium grade. Synthetic oil is fine as long as it meets these specifications.
  • The manual’s recommendation: To follow the manufacturer’s instructions, use Mopar, Pennzoil, or Shell Helix brand motor oil.

How often to change the oil on a 2015 Dodge Dart SXT 2.4

Dodge recommends that you change your oil every 7,500 to 10,000 miles. If you don’t put a lot of miles on your car, then changing the oil every six months is a safe bet.
Every engine is different and things don’t always play out in the real world like they do in the owner’s manual. To ensure you’re changing the oil at the right time, check your oil level on a regular basis (once a month or every other refuel). Monitor for the following indications that you’re due for an oil change:
  • Color change — motor oil that needs changing is dark brown or black, while clean oil is light brown or amber
  • Motor oil that feels coarse or gritty
  • Unfamiliar noises coming from the engine
  • New smells, especially anything that
    smells like oil
  • Changes in your vehicle’s performance

How to change your oil and oil filter

You’ll need a socket wrench, a drain pan, and a filter wrench designed to remove the old oil filter. A few old rags are always handy as well. Don’t forget to buy a replacement filter and 5.5 quarts of premium 0W-20 engine oil
Begin by running the engine for a few minutes to warm it up. Shut the engine off, open the hood, and follow these steps:
  • Remove the oil fill cap
  • Get underneath the engine and remove the oil drain bolt and washer, draining the old oil into the drain pan
  • Remove the old oil filter and continue to let the oil drain
  • Install the new filter
  • Replace the oil drain bolt using a new washer and tighten it to 29 lb-ft
  • Refill the engine with your new oil and replace the fill cap
After changing your oil, it’s a good idea to turn on your car and let your engine run for about 30 seconds before you check the oil level. This will give you a more accurate measurement, and you’ll be able to top it off if necessary.
Use your dipstick to check that you’ve added enough oil to the engine, but don’t overfill it. Tighten everything back up, run your Dart for a few minutes, and watch closely for any leaks.
The final step: cleanup. Don’t dump the dirty oil on the ground, down the sewer, or toss it in your garbage bin. Some curbside garbage haulers will take used engine oil if it’s in a sealed container and placed by the bin, and many auto parts stores will also accept used motor oil. If these aren’t an option for you, place it in a sealed container and bring it to a local recycling center.
