2014 Buick Enclave oil capacity

The 2014 Buick Enclave has an oil capacity of 6 quarts (or 5.7 liters) including the filter.
In addition to changing your oil, it’s a good idea to check your oil levels every time you fill up your
Enclave’s gas tank
. If your oil level is less than the recommended level, you’ll need at least 1 qt of oil to get it back to the recommended oil.

What kind of oil does a 2014 Buick Enclave need?

Buick recommends using SAE 5W-30 engine oil with a dexos1 certification. Engine oil with SAE 0W-30 oil is recommended if you live in an extremely cold area (where the temperature falls below -20°F / -29°C). Buick specifically recommends using ACDelco dexos1 Synthetic Blend oil.
That’s a lot of information—let’s break it down. Dexos oil just means that the oil meets certain requirements and is usually approved for General Motors vehicles. The “SAE” stands for the Society of Automotive Engineers, which developed the viscosity rating system.
The numbers after SAE represent viscosity, or thickness. The number before the W represents the oil flow in cold start temperatures, and the number on the right represents the flow in hot operating temperatures. The lower the number, the more easily the oil will flow.
Failing to use the recommended oil can result in engine damage and may void your manufacturer’s warranty, so be careful.
Here are some options for specific brands of 5W-30 oil:
Make sure to double-check with your mechanic or dealer whether you’ve got the correct oil for your engine.

How often to change the oil on a 2014 Buick Enclave

Buick has installed a computer system feature in the 2014 Enclave that’ll tell you when to change your engine oil and filter because the intervals will usually depend on how and where you use your vehicle.
A “CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON” message will come on when the system determines an oil change is necessary—when this happens, you should change the oil within the next 600 miles (1,000 km)
If the system has been reset accidentally, the oil must be changed 3,000 miles after the last oil change.
Also watch out for the following signs that you may need an oil change:
  • Your oil is dark brown or black instead of tan or amber
  • Your fuel efficiency decreases (you’re using more gas than usual for routine trips)
  • Your engine is consistently stalling or overheating
You can also use your dipstick to check whether your oil levels are on par or whether the color of the oil is correct. All you have to do is turn off the engine, wait a few minutes, and check whether the level is at the recommended amount.

How to change your oil and oil filter

You don’t always have to go to a mechanic to complete an oil and filter change. That being said, it can be a little technical, so it wouldn’t hurt to have some help if it’s your first time doing an at-home change.
First, assemble the following tools:
  • Jack and jack stand to raise your car
  • A drain bolt wrench
  • An oil filter-removal wrench (a specialized tool you’ll have to get from a dealer)
  • A filter and drain pan to catch the old oil
  • Funnel and gloves (this will be messy!)
Make sure you have at least 6 quarts of your chosen engine oil along with a new oil filter. From there, follow these steps:
  1. Safely park your Enclave on a level surface.
  2. Turn your car on and let your engine reach a normal operating temperature before turning it off and waiting a few minutes.
  3. Raise the car up using a floor jack and jack stand.
  4. Open the hood and remove the oil fill cap.
  5. Place a drain pan under the drain plug and remove it using the wrench. Let the oil drain into the pan completely via the filter. Be careful—the oil may be hot.
  6. Using the oil filter wrench, loosen the oil filter. Remove it by hand. Keep the drain pan in position, as more oil will spurt out.
  7. Screw in the new oil filter and drain plug using the corresponding wrenches.
  8. Pour in the appropriate amount of new oil through the filler opening. Reinstall the cap and tighten it securely.
After you’re done, be sure to restart your car and check if there’s any leakage and that the oil is at the appropriate level. If it turns out you’ve added too little, just add more until you’re at the proper levels. If you’ve added too much, you may have to get a service technician to drain some out for you.
For the 2014 Buick Enclave, you’re going to need to reset your Engine Oil Life System, which monitors your oil and tells you when to change it next. To do so:
  1. Turn the ignition to ON, but don’t start the engine.
  2. Press the vehicle information button until “OIL LIFE REMAINING” displays.
  3. Press and hold the set/reset button until you see a “100%” appear. You’ll hear three chimes and the “CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON” message will go off.
  4. Turn the ignition to LOCK/OFF.
And that’s it! You’ve successfully changed the oil of your 2014 Buick Enclave, saving yourself the time and
cost of a Buick Enclave oil change
from a mechanic.
