2011 Honda Odyssey engine oil capacity

Before you pop the hood and get started, you’ll need to know just how much engine oil your 2011 Honda Odyssey needs
Your Honda's engine oil capacity is 4.5 quarts (or 4.2 liters). In other words, every time your Honda's oil is changed, it requires 4.5 gallons of new oil. Don't mix this number up with your engine's displacement—the 3.5-liter volume your Honda's V6 cylinders occupy.
While the two volumes sound similar, their volumes are not interchangeable. Make sure you have the right number to prevent inflicting major damage to the engine.

What kind of oil does a 2011 Honda Odyssey need?

Now that you know how much oil you’ll need, it’s time to talk about oil type. In order to perform at its best, your Honda requires a specific type of oil. According to Honda manufacturers, Genuine Honda 0W-20 Premium-Grade Motor Oil will do the trick.
If you’re wondering how this oil differs from others, here’s a quick rundown of what this oil grade represents.
Oil's viscosity varies with temperature, so the numbers indicate this range. The "0" before the "W," which stands for "winter," indicates that the grade has a low viscosity at 0°F. And the "20" tells us that even at the typical operating temperature of 212°F, the viscosity of this oil will be quite low.
So why does viscosity level matter? In short, a less viscous oil will prevent your engine from experiencing unnecessary wear and tear.
It’s always a safe bet to go with what the manufacturers suggest and use

How often to change the oil on a 2011 Honda Odyssey

Now that you know what you’ll need to change your oil, how do you know when your oil actually needs to be changed?
In general, Honda recommends swapping out your old oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles
However, your oil change interval may vary depending on a number of factors.
For example, conventional oil won’t keep your engine running as long as synthetic oil, and vehicles used daily will require more frequent oil changes than those that aren’t.
If you’re unsure if it’s time to change your oil, you can inspect your oil to see if it's clean and functional. If your oil appears dark or dirty or if you hear unusual noises coming from your engine, it's a good idea to change your oil.

How to change your oil and oil filter

Once you’ve decided it’s time to change your oil, you can prepare the materials you’ll need: a  socket wrench, a drain pan, and a filter wrench designed to remove the old oil filter, along with 5 quarts of 0W-20 engine oil!
Start your engine to heat it up to its normal operating temperature. This should take about 5 minutes. Next, pop open the hood of your Odyssey and find the oil reservoir. Follow the steps below:
  • Remove the reservoir cap
  • Remove the oil drain bolt and the washer
  • Drain the old oil into a drain pan
  • Continue to drain the oil while replacing the old oil filter with the new one
  • Replace the oil drain bolt
  • Refill your engine reservoir with the new oil
  • Replace the fill cap.
Finally, let your engine run with the new oil for a few minutes, and keep an eye out for leaks. Once you’ve completed all the steps, your dashboard’s
oil pressure light
should turn off.
Pro Tip Ensure you dispose of the old oil in a container and drop it off at a recycling center!
