We’ve all been there—you finally get around to inflating the tires only to notice that the Check Engine light has turned on, and so forth. 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe engine oil capacity

Let’s dive right in and ask the big question: how much engine oil does the 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe need? All Santa Fe models are powered by a 3.3-liter V6 engine that has a total oil capacity of six quarts.
If you ever notice the phrase “engine displacement” in your owner’s manual or elsewhere, keep in mind that oil capacity and engine displacement are not the same measurement! Your oil capacity is the amount of oil needed for a proper oil change, while displacement represents the specific amount of oil that your engine’s cylinders need to do their job.

What kind of oil does a 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe need?

Now that we’ve discussed the amount of oil your Santa Fe needs, it’s time to go over the exact type of oil that you’ll need to use. Different engines use different kinds of oil, so don’t head to Advance Auto Parts just yet. For the 2015 Santa Fe, Hyundai recommends that you use
Quaker State SAE 5W-30 synthetic motor oil
If you were wondering, those letters and numbers actually tell you a lot about the oil itself. For example, the 5 and the 30 describe the oil’s viscosity (thickness) at very low and very high temperatures, respectively, while the W stands for winter.
In short, this kind of oil performs well in the heat, cold, and everything in between—plus, the low viscosity will lead to less wear and tear on your engine.

How often to change the oil on a 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe

Now that you know how much and what kind of oil to buy, it’s time to talk about
changing your oil
.
Traditional oil needs to be swapped out every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. However, the 2015 Santa Fe uses synthetic oil, which bumps your range up to between 7,500 to 10,000 miles before needing new oil.
Regardless, it’s good to get into the habit of checking your oil semi-regularly. A good routine would be to check either once a month or every other time you fill up with gas.
Also, watch out for any of these signs that your car is in need of an oil change:
  • You notice the engine start making strange noises
  • You smell a strong odor of oil, smoke, or burning
  • You notice any changes in your vehicle’s performance
  • You see that your oil has become dark brown or black (clean oil is light brown and almost translucent)

How to change your oil and oil filter

Roll up your sleeves and grab your tools, it’s go time! You’ll need a socket wrench, a drain pan, and a filter wrench in order to remove the old oil filter. Don’t forget your new filter and six quarts of synthetic oil.
Begin by letting the engine idle for a few minutes to warm up the oil. Once five minutes have passed, you can turn off the engine and follow these steps:
  • Remove the oil fill cap
  • Maneuver yourself underneath the engine and remove the oil drain bolt and washer, allowing the old oil to leak into the drain pan
  • Remove the old oil filter and keep letting the oil drain
  • Install the new filter
  • Use a new washer to replace the old drain bolt and tighten it to 29 lb-ft
  • Refill the engine with your new oil and replace the fill cap
Once all of that is done, turn on your engine again and let it run for around 30 seconds or so, then turn it off. Next, use your dipstick to ensure that you added enough oil. Start your engine and let it idle for another few minutes, this time watching out for any leaks—if you see the
oil pressure light
switch off on the dashboard, your job is almost done.
Last, but by no means least, is cleaning up the mess. Never, ever, ever pour dirty oil on the ground or throw it in the trash. Always put the used oil in a safe, sealed container and bring it to the nearest recycling center.

Don’t forget regular insurance policy maintenance

You did it, you changed your own oil! A pat on the back is in order for a job well done. Performing scheduled maintenance on your Santa Fe is a great way to keep it on the road for years to come, plus you’ll save some
time
and money by doing it yourself.
