You may not consider your car’s radio when thinking of frequently stolen vehicle components. Other parts, such as your catalytic converter, battery, or even your license plate may come to mind, but your radio is actually one of the most frequently stolen vehicle components and should be treated as such.
Recently, car radio theft has gone down for one significant reason—radio codes. As vehicle technology advanced, radio codes were invented to deter thieves from stealing your radio system.
If your radio is disconnected from its power source (your car’s battery), your radio requires you (or a thief) to input a unique code to unlock it.
While this technological advancement has worked wonders to deter thieves from stealing your radio, it’s also a headache for anyone who’s recently replaced their battery and doesn’t know where to start looking for that special code.
How to find your 2010 Honda Pilot radio code
Thankfully, finding your Honda Pilot’s radio code is usually a quick and easy process. In some cases, you may not even need your radio code to unlock the radio.
Try pressing and holding the radio power button for a couple of seconds before searching for the code. In some cases, that’s all it takes for your radio to unlock.
If that doesn’t work, you’ll need to take a few extra steps to regain access to your radio. Take a look inside your glove box for a sticker on your owner’s manual that says “Anti-Theft Radio Code.”
If you don’t see anything on your owner’s manual, look on the inside of the glove box itself or sift through other papers in your box to see if the sticker is floating around.
When you find the sticker, look for a code that’s five digits long—anything longer or any code with letters in it isn’t your radio code.
How to look up a 2010 Honda Pilot radio code
If you’ve done a thorough search of your glove box for the sticker and come up empty-handed, don’t worry—you can access your radio code with your
Honda's vehicle identification number (VIN)
and your radio’s radio serial number. The easiest place to find your VIN is printed on the driver’s side door jamb or dashboard, but you’ll also be able to find it in your insurance and registration documents.
The next step is to get your serial number. To do this, press and hold down all six preset buttons at the same time. At the same time, insert your key into the ignition and switch it to the ON position. This might be tricky with just two hands, so it’s a good idea to call up a friend and have them do this step for you.
A 10-digit serial number should appear after a couple of seconds of holding down the buttons while the ignition is in the ON position. With both the serial number and your VIN, you can finally find the magic number you need to unlock your radio.
