Why do I need a 2005 Honda Odyssey radio code?

The first time you try your radio after you get battery maintenance done can be bewildering. What does the “code” message mean, and why do you need a radio code anyway?
Basically, your car’s sound system resets every time your battery dies or is replaced. This anti-theft measure is meant to deter thieves from taking your radio if your car is broken into. Since radios are one of the most common stolen car parts, manufacturers added codes as an extra level of security.
But if you’re late to work and don't have your radio code on hand—this is a pesky predicament. Here’s where you can find your 2005 Honda Odyssey radio code and get your tunes back.

How to find your 2005 Honda Odyssey radio code

Lucky for you, finding your 2005 Honda Odyssey radio code is pretty easy. Even battery, you may not even need it!
Before looking for your code, try resetting your radio by pressing and holding the power button for a few seconds. Doing so may reboot your radio without a code, giving you your tunes back.
But, if that doesn't work, there are two key places where you can find your car’s radio code—the glove box and your owner’s manual. Your radio code will typically be on a sticker labeled “Anti Theft Radio Code.” It will be a five-digit number and won’t contain any letters.

How to look up your 2005 Honda Odyssey radio code

If you threw away your owner’s manual years ago or can’t find a sticker, that’s okay!
You can still get your radio code using your
vehicle identification number (VIN)
and radio serial number
You can find your radio’s serial number by turning your car on without starting the engine. Then, press your radio’s 1 and 6 preset buttons simultaneously. Hold for a few seconds until a 10-digit serial number pops up on your display.
Once you have your serial number, it’s time to find your VIN. Thankfully, it’s easy to find by checking your registration, insurance card, or the bottom of your windshield on the driver's side.
Once you have those two numbers, you can:
  • Use Honda’s
    online tool

  • Call customer service at 1-800-999-1009
  • Visit a Honda service center
