While you may not know much about the history of Hyundai, the Korean brand dates back to the 1960s and has grown into a global powerhouse in the last 70 years, selling more than a million vehicles annually. Hyundai prides itself on producing practical, reliable, and affordable vehicles—and that’s the essence of a station wagon.
The station wagon is a powerhouse when it comes to versatility and functionality, with an extended roofline to accommodate more cargo. Although Hyundai may not produce station wagons anymore, you can use the Hyundai station wagon facts in this guide, presented by

Does Hyundai still make a station wagon?

No, Hyundai currently doesn't make any station wagons for the U.S. market—but the carmaker used to. The Elantra was offered in a station wagon model, called the Elantra Touring, from 2009 to 2012. If you’re lucky, you still may be able to find one used.

What’s the difference between a station wagon and a hatchback?

Many people are under the impression that a station wagon and
a hatchback
are the same. While they may have similarities, there are differences between a station wagon and a hatchback that put them in a class of their own.
Here are some of the defining features of the classic station wagon body style that separate it from a hatchback:
  • Longer body
  • Longer passenger or cargo space
  • D-pillar (generally included)
  • Extended roofline (straight line the entire length of the vehicle)
  • More cargo space
  • Three sets of windows
Unlike wagons, hatchbacks aren’t as practical for anyone looking to maximize cargo space. They tend to focus more on style than functionality.
The hatchback roofline generally dips immediately after the rear passenger doors, making for a smaller trunk area with less cargo capacity. In contrast, the D-pillar of the wagon is pushed further back, extending the vehicle and creating a sharper rear slope that can accommodate more cargo. Some wagons even have a third row of seats.

The Elantra Touring was released in 2009 as the company’s flagship vehicle, intended to conquer the enormous compact segment of the vehicle market. It was new, exciting, and offered plenty of power to provide excellent speed and responsiveness.
Unlike other Hyundai models that changed every year, the Elantra Touring remained basically the same since its introduction in 2009. It is powered by a 2.0L four-cylinder engine generating 138 horsepower and 136 pound-feet of torque in a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission
Both trim levels of the Touring come equipped with plenty of convenience and comfort features. And with 65 cubic feet of cargo space, the Elantra Touring offers ample storage and lands on the large side for its class.
While the Elantra Touring was only manufactured for a few years, it served as a practical, functional, and reliable vehicle while it lasted—and buyers got plenty of car for their money.
