For around $3,350 above starting price, the BMW Executive package offers a range of extra features to several BMW models, from heated cupholders to a panoramic LED roof and massage seats.
“Executive” is definitely a word most of us would associate with BMWs—and the kind of people who tend to drive them. It’s a brand that offers sophistication for the upscale driver, but what if you want to take your BMW even more upmarket than the standard trims? That’s where the Executive package comes in, adding shiny bells and whistles to already-phenomenal cars.
Here’s what you should know about the package before you head to the dealership.

What is the BMW Executive package?

The BMW Executive package is an optional package available on several BMW models, adding high-end features and little touches of luxury to seriously impress your passengers.
It is available for the following models:
However, what is included for each model varies, with some features available for some models and not others, so it’s important to get a clear idea of what is available for the car you are interested in before signing up for the package.

What’s included

As we just mentioned, there are a number of options available in the Executive Package from BMW. Here are some of the highlights:
  • Heads Up Display
  • Power Tailgate
  • Heated Steering Wheel
  • Gesture Control
  • Panoramic LED Roof
  • Front Massage Seats
  • Front Ventilated Seats
  • Remote Engine Start
  • Heated and Cooled Cupholders
  • Glass Controls
  • Rear Manual Side Window Shades
  • Icon Adaptive LED Headlights with Laserlight

What it does

As you can probably tell from the list above, the Executive package delivers that extra level of luxury and sophistication. Most of these options are nice to have, rather than essential—and very few of them affect how the vehicle actually drives. But if you can afford the extra few thousand dollars and really want your Bimmer to be a cut above the rest, why not splash out?
After all, what says ‘luxury’ better than hand-made diamond-cut glass trim elements on the transmission selector lever? Or a panoramic sky lounge LED roof that offers a pattern in a choice of six different colors (white, blue, orange, bronze, lilac, and green)?
Or you can indulge your James Bond fantasies with the Heads-Up display, which projects a multi-color image on the windshield (or appears to float just beyond it) with travel information, directional arrows, and infotainment controls.
Even something as simple as the rear manual side window shades can make a big difference in keeping the sun off (or protecting the privacy of) rear seat passengers, whether they’re celebrities or just sleeping children.
And on cold days, what could be more necessary than a heated steering wheel and heated cupholders to stop your coffee from getting cold? The only real question here is how you ever lived without these features before.

How much is a 2023 BMW Executive package?

Of course, if these were cheap additions, you would find them in every car—or at the very least, they’d be standard in every BMW. But they’re not cheap, and while prices vary by model, you can certainly expect to be spending around $2,000–$4,000 on top of the standard pricing. Those heated cupholders don’t pay for themselves, you know.

Is the Executive package worth it?

The Executive package is all about over-the-top luxury, and while some of the features have practical uses and can enhance your day-to-day driving experience, some of them are pure indulgence.
If you can afford cut glass transmission trims and feel like they would really tie your cockpit together, then you’ll definitely say that the Executive package was worth it. But it’s hard to say that any of these features is essential or that opting for a cheaper package wouldn’t still get you a very high-end BMW.

Executive package vs. Premium package

To make things even more confusing, BMW has several packages priced at various levels and available for various models. A similar option to the Executive package is the Premium package. Again, what options it offers depends on the particular BMW you are interested in, but some of the highlights include:
  • Live Cockpit Pro With Heads-Up Display
  • Panoramic Moonroof
  • Ambient Lights Package
  • Wireless Device Charger
  • Remote Engine Start
  • Heated Front Seats
  • Heated Steering Wheel
As you can see, there’s some overlap with the Executive package here, so which one to go for will almost certainly depend on your budget and the specific options you are interested in. Prices for the Premium package range from around $1,700 up to $4,200

Executive package vs. Convenience package

The Convenience package is another alternative to the Executive package that still offers quite a lot of the same options—the main difference is hinted at by its name. ‘Convenience’ doesn’t have the same luxurious ring to it as ‘Executive’ or ‘Premium,’ and accordingly, it is generally available on lower-spec BMW models.
Some of its features even appear as standard in higher-spec models, and they include:
  • Wireless Device Charging
  • Comfort Access Keyless Entry
  • Lumbar Support
  • Panoramic Moonroof
These are all still nice-to-have rather than essentials, but at the lower end of the scale than you’d find in the Executive package. Prices for the Convenience package range from $400 to $2,250.

The bottom line

One way to look at the Executive package and whether it is worth the money is that, if you are already spending upwards of $70,000 on a high-end BMW, would another $3,000 or $4,000 to throw in some really luxurious extras make much of a difference to your budget? Sure, you don’t NEED any of these options, but that doesn’t mean you wouldn’t enjoy having them.
