Or, splurge for the 45 trim,which gets you a more powerful variant of that same engine, with 261 horses. While both trims offer smooth cruising and nimble handling sensibilities, the 45 delivers a significant boost, going from 0 to 60 in just 4.8 seconds.
The A4 sports a modern cabin that nicely balances form and function. It boasts soft materials and easy-to-use technology, as well as spacious and comfortable rear seats. There is not a ton of cargo space here, though the back seats fold down if you need to haul large items.

Passengers will be very comfortable in the A5’s front seats, and the cabin is stylish and sophisticated, even if it does lack some creature comforts. You won’t find a heated or adjustable power steering wheel or heated seats.But with such a driving dynamo under your command, who cares?
3. Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Mercedes-Benz delivers a powerful sports sedan in the form of the C-Class. You get the power you’re used to with Mercedes, here in the form of a turbocharged 2.0 L inline-4 cylinder engine with 255 horsepower, along with a 48-volt hybrid system that delivers an extra 20 horsepower. And on top of its 9-speed automatic transmission and spry handling,the C-Class goes from 0 to 60 in an impressive 5.3 seconds.
The C-Class interior is gorgeous, featuring open-pore wood trim, aluminum accents, and soft leather upholstery. If anything, the dash is too high-tech—almost everything is controlled by touch screens, which, while cool, isn’t the most driver-friendly system. Instead of drivers being forced to touch their way to achieve the system performance they desire (or recruit their front passenger to do this for them), some stylish knobs and physical buttons would have been more intuitive.
4. BMW 2-Series
Starting price: $35,700 to $48,550
Selling points: Terrific acceleration, great handling
Weak spot: Tiny rear seat, no manual transmission available
The spiffy two-door BMW 2-Series will get your heart pumping with its terrific acceleration, top-tier ride,and stellar handling. Still, driving enthusiasts will lament the fact that there’s no manual transmission available, and if you live somewhere with nice weather, you might wish it came as a convertible.
But that can easily be forgiven thanks to the 2-Series’ fleet set of engines—a spunky turbocharged 2.0 L inline-4 cylinder engine with 255 horsepower. Upgrade to the M240i, and you’ll get yourself an all-wheel-drive 3.0 L straight-six with 382 horsepower that goes from 0 to 60 in a blistering 3.6 seconds.
The 2-Series coupe features a subdued-but-stylish interior with an ergonomic design and a mix of both analog and electronic controls. The 12.3-inch digital instrument panel juxtaposes the classic analog speed gauges, while a standard 8.8-inch touchscreen also boasts rotary controls to bring a modern but still classic experience.
5. Kia Stinger
Starting price: $36,590 to $53,990
Selling points: Powerful V6 engine; stylish-yet-practical sedan
Weak spot: Suffers on curves; cabin less luxe than competitors
The
Kia Stinger
puts up quite the battle against the top luxury sedan-makers, but the Stinger ultimately is more buzz than actual sting. It sports a solid base 2.5 L inline-4 cylinder engine with 300 horsepower, but the real star is the optional 3.3 L V6 engine with 368 horsepower. The V6 provides dynamic cruises, but the engine tends to lag when you really push it hard, especially in comparison to the Euro competition. In terms of cornering and twisty turns, you’re better off in the Kia’s German rivals.The Stinger’s interior is well-appointed and comfortable, but it's not quite a home run. The seats are comfortable both in front and in the rear, but the overall feel of the cabin is less polished than you’d expect in a luxury sedan.
The Stinger comes with Kia’s standard UVO infotainment system.It also boasts 23.3 cubic feet of cargo space, which is more than most luxury rivals.

If you’re looking for a luxury sedan with a sporting pedigree, the
Volvo S60
is not what you’re looking for. Its gas engine is not exciting—the inline-4 cylinder with 247 horsepower produces a perfectly amenable cruiser, but it’s nothing thrilling. The gas engine S60 gets 30 combined miles per gallon.However, with both a hybrid and a plug-in hybrid option, the S60 becomes something of a speed demon. The Recharge hybrid gets a muscular 400 horsepower, and the Polestar plug-in hybrid gets a whopping 455 horsepower, along with 74 MPGe and 41 miles of electric range. Both S60 Hybrids are quick and offer precise handling, not to mention being terrific on turns. Of course, you’ll have to pony up for an S60 with power, but we think it's worth it.
The Volvo S60’s interior shines across all trim lines. Minimalist Scandinavian style is everywhere, from its upscale, supremely comfortable seats, sleek 12.3-inch digital cluster gauge, moody ambient lighting,and who could leave out the jeweled switchgear? The S60 offers 13.8 cubic feet of cargo space and tows up to 2,000 pounds.
8. Infiniti Q50

The Q50 shifts gears with ease, but the rest of its driving demeanor leaves much to be desired—a harsh and shaky ride quality, steering that lacks feedback, subpar cornering chops, and a top trim Red Sport 400 that can’t match the driving verve of rivals such as BMW and Audi.The Q50’s interior is also a mixed bag—leather upholstery, a power-adjustable steering wheel, and driver seat memory settings are all standard, but not much else is. Overall, the Infiniti Q50 feels dated, with its clunky, dual-screen touchscreen feeling more like a failed design experiment than an infotainment system suitable for a luxury sedan. The Q50 can power up to 7 devices with its mobile hotspot, so there’s that.
