You might be thinking that having a code for something as common as a car radio is silly—after all, it’s just a radio right? Well, it turns out that radios are actually one of the most frequently stolen vehicle components
Once your radio is disconnected from its power source, it will ask for a code before you can start listening to music again. Before inputting the code, your radio is essentially useless—detering radio thieves from breaking into your car. 
However, while it’s great that thieves may be discouraged from stealing your radio, this process can be annoying for you as well, especially if you don’t know where or how to find your Volvo’s radio code.  

How to find your Volvo’s radio code

There are a couple of ways you can use your Volvo’s radio again—the easiest fix is holding down its power button for a couple of seconds. Most of the time, that will reset your radio and fix the issue without a code. 
However, if your radio continues to task for a code, you’re going to need to do some more digging. Look for a number labeled “Anti-Theft Radio Code” in your glove box or owner’s manual. You might find your radio serial number, but don’t forget that your radio code will be five digits long

and the radio serial number to locate it
Find your VIN by looking for your insurance or registration documents. It might also be on the door next to the driver’s seat or on the dashboard. 
Finding your radio serial number is a little more complicated—you’re going to need to take out your radio from its docket. The radio serial number will be listed on the radio itself, and you might need a little help finding it. Be sure to consult your owner’s manual for steps on how to remove your radio from your vehicle.
