Will Elephant raise your rates?

Most insurance providers—including Elephant—will reevaluate your insurance premiums when you
renew your policy
If you notice that your rates have increased upon renewal, this may be due to:
  • New tickets, violations, or accidents on your record
  • Your new home address, if you moved
  • A new vehicle added to the policy
  • A new driver added to the policy
  • Inflation, which can average insurance rates
Overall, Elephant received a score of 5/5 from Jerry users for their insurance renewal process, earning them a first place ranking for this aspect of their service. This means drivers felt it was easy and satisfying to renew their contracts with Elephant.
Insurance rates will increase over time, even without any changes to your driving record or other important factors.

Elephant allows drivers to file any
insurance claims
online, after which point you can track the status of your claim via Elephant’s website. According to our data, 60% of Elephant Insurance customers have filed a claim with an overall satisfaction rating of 3.5/5, meaning Elephant is fairly average in this category.

Elephant car insurance discounts

Elephant currently offers several discounts, and drivers who take advantage of these savings opportunities can save up to 40% on their insurance rates. Available discounts include the following.
Discount
How to get it
A safe driver discount will be automatically applied to your policy if you avoid traffic violations and stay accident-free for three consecutive years or more.
If you choose to insure multiple vehicles on the same policy, you’ll qualify for a discounted insurance rate.
If you’re financially capable of paying for your entire insurance policy at once, you’ll receive an automatic discount from Elephant.
If you choose to bundle your auto insurance with another policy (such as homeowners insurance or renters insurance), Elephant will offer you a discounted rate on all your policies.
Homeowners discount
Drivers who also own their own home (a house or a condo) will automatically earn a discounted rate on their policy with Elephant.
Work-from-home discount
If you don’t need to commute to the office, you can save on your Elephant policy.
Paperless account discount
Opting out of paper statements and paying your bills online instead can earn you a discounted rate on your policy.
In select states, you can submit documentation of your grades. Drivers under 25 may earn a discount for maintaining a B-average or better. Savings vary by state, so contact your agent for more information
Many of these discounts are applied to your policy automatically based on the personal information you provide, but some (like the good student discount, for example) will require you to provide additional information each time you renew to continue receiving a lower rate.

Elephant insurance coverage and add-on options

All auto insurance companies are required by law to provide at least the
minimum car insurance coverage
required in your state, and most drivers need a
full coverage insurance policy
to meet all their insurance needs. However, Elephant Insurance is known for their extensive coverage options and highly customizable insurance plans.
Elephant auto insurance customers can obtain the following types of insurance coverage:
  • Liability insurance
: Liability coverage pays for damage you cause to other people in an accident where you are found to be at fault, and it’s required in most states. Almost all of the time, your policy will need to meet state minimum limits for both
    bodily injury liability
    and
    property damage liability
    .
  • Collision insurance
: Included in most definitions of a full coverage car insurance policy, collision coverage pays for repairs to your car after an accident or collision, minus a deductible.
  • Comprehensive insurance
: Comprehensive coverage is also typically included in a full coverage policy. This type of insurance pays for damages to your vehicle sustained by things other than a collision, such as car theft, vandalism, and damage from floods or fires, just to name a few things. Your coverage will pay up to the actual cash value of your car, minus a deductible.
  • Personal injury protection (PIP)
: Drivers in no-fault states must carry this coverage, which pays for medical expenses for you and your passengers after an accident, along with rehabilitation costs and lost wages.
  • Medical payments (MedPay) coverage
: This add-on is optional outside of Maine and New Hampshire, but if you get it, it will help pay for the medical or funeral expenses of you, other covered drivers, or your passengers after an accident.
  • Rental reimbursement coverage
: If your vehicle is totaled or severely damaged in an accident, rental reimbursement coverage can help you pay for a temporary replacement via a rental car.
  • Under/uninsured motorist coverage (UM/UIM)
: This type of coverage pays bills associated with injuries you or your passengers sustain in an accident where the other driver is uninsured or underinsured. This coverage only applies if you were not at fault.
  • Loan/Lease payoff coverage (gap insurance)
: Drivers with a car loan can purchase gap insurance to pay the difference between the actual cash value (ACV) of their vehicle and the amount they owe on their loan. If you total your vehicle, this coverage can be a huge asset.
  • Non-owner insurance
: If you regularly use another person’s car but don;t have a vehicle of your own, non-owner insurance keeps you legally compliant and financially safe in the event of an accident.
  • Custom parts and equipment coverage: If you like to add modifications to your vehicle, this type of insurance will pay to repair or replace them after an accident.
Elephant Insurance also offers several unique and standard add-on insurance options, including:
  • Roadside assistance
: With this add-on, you’ll get help paying for the cost of towing or roadside service following a mechanical or electrical breakdown. This coverage can help you pay for services following battery failure, a flat tire, being locked out, or running out of gas.
  • At home mechanic service: Stuck in your driveway? Elephant partners with YourMechanic to offer several repair, maintenance, and diagnostic services at the address of your choice.
  • Legal coverage: This unique coverage helps you pay for 100% of all legal fees for one moving violation per year, plus 25% discounts on other attorney services in other areas of your life (such as real estate transactions, family law, will preparation, and more).
  • Diminishing deductible coverage: This coverage can be added to your collision coverage to reduce your out-of-pocket costs after an accident.
  • Upgraded accident forgiveness: Rather than waiting three years for an accident to be waived (as you would on a standard policy), Elephant’s upgraded version of accident forgiveness allows this to happen right away.
  • Pet injury coverage: Do you bring your pets along in the car? If so, this pet injury coverage add-on will pay up to $1,000 towards your pet’s injuries following a covered accident claim.
