Allstate Milewise is a pay-per-mile car insurance
program from Allstate that tracks your miles and driving behaviors. Milewise helps low-mileage drivers save money by offering an affordable daily rate and per-mile rate. Is Allstate Milewise worth it?
Allstate Milewise is a good option for low-mileage drivers
, including: People who stay at home with their children
Retirees or employees who work part time
People who use public transportation to commute or who have a short commute in the car
Folks who live close to their workplace or work from home
If you drive your vehicle a lot and have a higher annual mileage, you should sign your vehicle up for the Unlimited option. This way you’ll only pay the daily rate and won’t have to worry about the per-mile rate, even if you put a lot of miles on your car.
It might not be worth signing up for Milewise if you:
Don’t like your data being tracked
Are not interested in using the mobile app for information about your driving patterns

What is Allstate Milewise?
Allstate Milewise is a pay-per-mile program that offers the same insurance coverage as an Allstate Insurance traditional policy. Pay-per-mile car insurance, also called pay-as-you-go car insurance, will usually result in you paying a different insurance premium amount every month since your rate is based on how many miles you drive.
Milewise also tracks your driving behavior, which can impact your insurance rates in certain states.
Your rates might increase or decrease based on your driving behaviors if you are an Allstate customer driving in: AZ
, MN
, MT
, OK
, PA
, SC
, WI
You can avoid fluctuations in your rates in these states by not driving over 80 mph, avoiding sudden braking, and choosing not to drive between 11 PM and 4 AM.
How does Allstate Milewise work?
When you sign up for Allstate Milewise, you’ll receive your Milewise device in the mail. The device, which plugs into your vehicle’s diagnostic port (usually located under the steering column), tracks how much you drive to calculate your pay–per-mile rate. It will also store data, like your trip info.
How are Milewise rates calculated?
Milewise customers pay an average of $41 per month for car insurance.
You’ll pay a standard daily rate in addition to a per-mile rate. For instance, if your daily rate is $1.50 and your per-mile rate is 6¢, if you drive 12 miles in one day (6¢ x 12=72¢), you’ll pay a total of $2.22 ($1.50 + 72¢) for one day.
Milewise customers can choose from two payment options:
Pay-Per-Mile vehicle option: You’ll pay a daily rate plus the per-mile rate.
Unlimited vehicle option: You’ll only pay a daily rate and the number of miles you drive will not matter.
It’s also possible to sign up for a combination of both options.
