background
Premature automatic transmission failure, a failed air conditioning pressure switch (resulting in no air conditioning), and erratic blower motor operation due to a failed fan motor are among some of the 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander’s most common problems.
The 2014 Mitsubishi has many great qualities: power and great acceleration, stability, an attractive interior, and the expansive comfort of third-row seats. Unfortunately, it also has a below-average reliability rating of 2.5 out of five from J.D. Power—thanks, in part, due to some commonly reported issues with the vehicle.
We’ll go through all of the most common problems, as reported by drivers of the 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander so you can be prepared before purchasing the SUV.

The most common 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander problems

Despite all of its positive qualities, the 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander has collected some complaints. According to
RepairPal
, three complaints are quite common.
The first reported issue—backed up by 124 drivers—is that the automatic transmission may fail prematurely. Most drivers note that this issue often comes without warning, with the vehicle simply slowing down and the transmission warning light coming on. However, others do report odd noises and jerking motions as well.
Most of these issues are reported when the vehicle hits over 100,000 miles, especially around the 140,000-mile mark.
To repair this problem, a complete transmission overhaul or replacement is likely required, which can be quite expensive. Estimated repair costs for this issue run around $8,000 to $10,000
The second most common issue is far less dangerous, but is still quite a nuisance. 67 drivers reported that the air conditioning may not blow cold air due to a failed pressure switch. Once again, this seems to occur somewhere around the 100,000-mile mark
Drivers might recognize this issue if the air conditioning light turns on and warm air starts coming through the vents. This problem might cost around $100 to repair.
Finally, 67 drivers reported that they experienced erratic heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) blower motor operation thanks to a failed blower motor or blower motor resistor. This results in a host of symptoms, including loud noises coming from the heat and air conditioning vents, as well as the heating and cooling fans simply not working
The average cost for a 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander blower motor replacement is between $308 and $318.

Is the 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander reliable?

Due, in part, to the above concerns, the 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander has a below-average reliability rating of 2.5 out of five from J.D. Power.
Two National Highway Traffic Association (NHTSA) recalls also contribute to this rating. The first recall was on the 2014 Outlander’s parking brake. There is an issue where water could enter the rear brake calipers, which can cause the parking brake to not work properly.
The second recall involved the rear seat belt buckle. According to Mitsubishi, the second-row center seat belt buckle may interfere with the right-side seat belt buckle when the seat backs are folded down. This can cause the right-side seat belt buckle cover to come off, which can cause the buckle latch to not safely restrain the passenger in the seat.
