The most common 2014 Jeep Compass problems

2014 Jeep Compass

has unfortunately accumulated 280 complaints with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Of those complaints, many involved the engine and airbags—which additionally led to two safety recalls.

Out of the engine and transmission complaints, many owners complained of jerking, shuddering, and engine stalling with no warning. On RepairPal, 142 owners reported that the engine would not start due to a fault with the wireless control module.

Some drivers have found themselves in dangerous situations when their car loses power while driving, which has resulted in accidents in some cases. This eventually led to a recall in November 2013 on all 2014 Jeep Compass models with 2.4-liter engines, which experienced a loss of engine oil pressure due to abrasive debris in the balance shaft bearings.

Another large problem is their airbags not deploying properly in a crash. The Occupant Restraint Control (OCR) module could short circuit, preventing the frontal airbags, seat belt pretensioners, and side airbags from operating properly in an accident. This particular recall was issued in September 2016 and affected approximately 1.5 million units.

Fortunately, in both recall cases, dealers replaced the parts free of charge to ensure the safety of all Compass passengers. But that doesn’t mean the Compass wasn’t immune to other issues.
