F1: Drive to Survive is Netflix’s hit docuseries about the Formula One motor racing championship.
Since its initial release in 2019, the show has built up a passionate following, and has been credited with boosting the sport’s popularity in the U.S.
The next season is primed for release in a few months’ time. It will showcase all of the drama from the 2021 race year, promising trackside footage and candid driver interviews.
However, F1 fans will be upset to learn that Max Verstappen, the
app is quick and secure, and the average user saves $887 a year!
Max Verstappen’s boycott is disappointing for ‘Drive to Survive’ fans
It would be disappointing for fans to hear that any drivers had refused to participate, but the fact that it’s Verstappen—one of the sport’s most interesting characters—is a real blow.
Back in July, Lewis Hamilton collided with Vertsappen at the British Grand Prix in Silverstone. Verstappen’s car smashed into the tire barriers, and he had to forfeit the rest of the race.
Hamilton was not penalized for the collision and went on to win the race. This enraged Verstappen’s team, who believed F1 judges had been unduly lenient to the British driver.
A couple of months later in the Italian Grand Prix, Verstappen appeared to get his revenge, crashing into Hamilton and taking both drivers out of the race (likely denying the Brit a win in the process).
It was a dangerous driving move from Verstappen and his Red Bull car ended up on top of Hamilton’s Mercedes.
Then, in the final race of the year, with Hamilton and Verstappen tied for the F1 Championship, Verstappen took full advantage of a safety car restart to win one of the most controversial and dramatic F1 championships of all time!
Suffice to say, the fact Verstappen won’t be actively involved in the new season of F1: Drive to Survive is terrible for the show’s producers, and disappointing to fans who were hoping for some juicy behind-the-scenes footage.
, Max Verstappen feels that interviews he has done for the show have been misrepresented in the past.
He joins a growing number of F1 figures to criticise the show for excessive artistic license, editing footage to fabricate conflict between drivers and management.
Still, there’s no denying the show has been a smash hit. The drama and infighting depicted in the series has led to bigger ratings in the U.S.
Responding to this, Max Verstappen said, “I understand that it needs to be done to boost the popularity in America…But from my side as a driver, I don’t like being part of it.”
With or without him, the fourth season of F1: Drive to Survive will be released on Netflix in early March, a couple of weeks before the 2022 Formula One World Championship begins.
