At a price tag of about $65,000, the 2022 Ford F-150 Platinum Hybrid isn't a cheap truck, according to

. It's twice as expensive as the regular F-150, but it comes with a lot of features. The biggest and most obvious change, though, is under the hood. This F-150 Hybrid gets a 5.0-liter V-8 engine as standard, and customers have the option of one of two 3.5-liter V-6 options. One of the V-6 engines has a hybrid component, the other doesn't. The hybrid component is called PowerBoost, and it costs $2,500.
With the hybrid engine, the F-150 gets 430 horsepower and 570 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to that high level of power, the F-150 Hybrid can tow up to 12,700 pounds of stuff.

How fuel-efficient is the 2022 Ford F-150 Hybrid?
On paper, the F-150 Hybrid should get about 24 mpg combined. For comparison, the regular F-150 gets about 13 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on highways, while the larger F-250 gets 10 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on highways.
This means that the F-150 Hybrid gets, on paper, about 4 mpg more than the regular F-150, and 9 mpg more than the F-250.
In practice, however, the F-150 Hybrid may not be as fuel-efficient as it is on paper. It may actually get about 18 mpg combined, which is a big difference from its fuel economy on paper. A fuel economy of 18 mpg combined would actually be worse than the regular F-150's stated fuel economy.
A car's fuel economy will depend a lot on how it's being driven, though. It's possible that the F-150 Hybrid gets a fuel economy that's closer to its stated numbers if it's being driven in the right way.
The 2022 Ford F-150 Hybrid is still a good option though
The F-150's Hybrid powertrain might have a disappointing fuel economy, but it doesn't disappoint in other areas. Thanks to the hybrid system, the F-150 Hybrid can accelerate very quickly compared to the regular F-150.
For a $750 additional fee, F-150 customers can get more practical use out of their truck's hybrid features. That's because the F-150 Hybrid can act as a generator, and even without that $750 fee, it can generate about 2.4 kW, which is then supplied to its two, 120-volt outlets.
If you pay that $750 fee, then Ford will bump that generator up to 7.2 kW. That's enough power to run a lot of tools that you might use around the house, or on a work site.
