background
Known for being one of James Bond’s cars of choice, getting behind the wheel of an
Aston Martin
can make just about anyone feel like the crime-fighting, womanizing, and fast-driving secret agent. On March 18, a particularly notable 2014 Aston Martin V8 Vantage roadster sold for $85,000 at auction—well above its $60,000 valuation. Even after eight years, there’s something special about this iconic

The special edition Aston Martin V8 Vantage

According to the
Bring a Trailer
listing, this particular Aston Martin came to auction after its previous owner acquired it in 2018, and has received several upgrades since it was driven off the lot. The factory edition came in Meteorite Silver, but a satin gray vinyl wrap was applied over top giving it an extra layer of luxury.
The external features include a power-operated black soft top, xenon headlights with washers, fender vents, an integrated rear spoiler, dual exhaust outlets, and parking sensors.
The interior leather seats are upholstered in a rich Chestnut Tan leather with Raven Black stitching, which also covers the center console, dashboard, and door panels. It also includes power-adjustable front seats, automatic climate control, navigation, cruise control, a trip computer, aluminum pedals, and a factory CD stereo.
The 4.7-liter V8 engine operates on a six-speed manual transaxle. In preparation for auction, the front brake rotors, sensors, and pads were replaced.

Why it aged so well

In addition to being kept in pristine condition, this particular year of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage delivers in both power and style. The 420-hp 4.7-liter V-8 engine is still fun to drive, and the drop-top and dual-pipe exhaust provide an added dose of nostalgia. The engine was factory rated at 420 horsepower and 346 lb-ft of torque.
The Carfax report also showed no record of accident or other signs of damage; it was basically in near-mint condition at the time of sale. There may never be a car quite like the V8 Vantage again, so if you’re looking to add to your collection, consider this quintessential piece of British manufacturing.
While you might want to upgrade the factory CD stereo or overhaul the somewhat dated infotainment system altogether, this car still retains just enough nostalgic charm that it doesn’t matter. If you’re looking for the latest in technology you’re out of luck, but if what you’re seeking is timeless style and a car made for cruising, then the V8 Vantage delivers.
