How much can I save with the North Carolina electric vehicle incentive?

In North Carolina, the following rebates are available for electric vehicle drivers who buy and install a level 2 charger at home:
  • $500 for Randolph Electric Membership Corporation (Randolph EMC) members
  • $100 for Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative (CHES) members
Additionally, both companies offer Time-of-Use (TOU) rates, which allow electric vehicle owners to save money on their electricity bills by paying lower rates during non-peak charging hours.

Eligibility criteria

Eligibility criteria differ for each incentive program.
For the Randolph EMC rebate program and TOU rates, you must:
  • Be a residential REMC member
  • Be one of the first 25 members to sign up for the program
  • Be a registered owner of an electric vehicle
  • Purchase and install a Wi-Fi-enabled level 2 charger
  • Allow Randolph EMC to collect data from your charger
For the CHES rebate program and TOU rates, you must: 
  • Be a CHES member
  • Live on Hatteras Island
  • Buy and install a Wi-Fi-enabled ChargePoint level 2 electric vehicle charger at your home
  • Allow CHES to collect data from your charger
