Methodology Exclusion Criteria

Our data set comprises user data for every user Jerry has run final quotes for in the last year. Initially, this was a data set of 1,039,376 quotes for 147,380 users. We normalized this to one quote (lowest option) for each of the 147,380 users. This is our primary data set.
We created two sub-datasets with our user data. For the first, we controlled for outliers by removing users with entered monthly premiums above 4,000 USD, or 200% of the average monthly premium after an at-fault wreck. If a state had under 1% total users, the state was not counted. This left us with 88,572 points of user data. This data set is henceforth referred to as Entered Premiums Data Set.
For the second, we controlled for outliers by removing quotes we’ve provided to customers above 4,000 USD per month. If a state or subgroup had under 1% total users, the state was not counted. This left us with 147,372 points of user data. This data set is henceforth referred to as Quoted Price Data Set.

Description of our Primary Data Set

Our top five user states are Florida, Texas, Georgia, California, and New York. Our bottom five user states are Alaska, Hawaii, North Dakota, Vermont, and South Dakota. Hawaii and Alaska have under 10 data points each and were therefore not used in our data analyses.
40% of our users are between 25-34, the second-highest number between 21-24, and 17% are between 35-44. A minority of our users are above 65.
