Why is my oil pressure light flickering at a low RPM?

I noticed this going through the drive-through after work last night—my oil pressure light is flickering on my dash when my car is idling. It goes away when I speed up again. Why is my oil pressure light flickering at a low RPM?

If you’re seeing your car’s oil pressure light flicker, there’s a chance your oil level might be too low and you may need to top it off.
If that solves it, great! If the problem persists after doing so, there could potentially be an issue with your oil pressure switch that’s giving you a false alarm. It could also be pointing to another issue with the oil pressure or your engine, in which case it’s best you take it into a mechanic to get to the bottom of what the light’s trying to tell you.
