I bought a GMC Sierra a few years ago and am now getting an annoying ticking noise when I speed up. Why does my GMC Sierra make a ticking noise when accelerating?

Sorry to hear you’re experiencing this issue! There are a few reasons why your GMC Sierra might be making a ticking noise while accelerating, but the most common include:
  • Low oil
  • Exhaust leak
  • Bad 5.3 engine lifter
Out of these three, the GMC Sierra is infamous for the latter, but to know for sure you’ll need to have a licensed mechanic diagnose the issue for you, preferably as soon as possible. If the ticking noise is caused by a bad lifter, it can spell disaster if left to worsen, resulting in very expensive repairs.
