When do you need to bleed your brakes?

I’m trying to start taking better care of my car and keep up with all its regular maintenance stuff. I’ve heard people mention “bleeding” their brakes. What is that? When do you need to bleed your brakes?

Great question! It’s awesome that you’re endeavoring to take better care of your car. Bleeding the brakes refers to partially or fully draining your car’s brake fluid and then replacing it.
This isn’t really a routine maintenance procedure—you shouldn’t need to regularly bleed your brakes. The only time when you need to bleed your brakes is if you’ve noticed that your brake pedal has started to go soft.
If your brake pedal doesn’t offer as much resistance when you press it down, that’s a good sign that it’s time for a brake bleeding.
