What’s the Ford Excursion’s towing capacity?

I own a small business that involves a lot of towing and hauling material, and we’re starting to expand. I’m thinking of buying a good used truck or SUV for my employees to use, but new trucks are really expensive. I found a 2005 Ford Excursion, but I don’t know much about it since they weren’t around for long. How much can a Ford Excursion tow?

Timing is everything! If the Ford Excursion had been introduced later than it was—when the SUV market started to really take off—I firmly believe it would’ve been a hit.
Ford Excursions’ towing capacity varies by model year and engine. For a 2005, the towing capacity is as follows:
  • Engine: 5.4L SEFI V8; Towing capacity: 6,100-7,600 lbs
  • Engine: 6.8L SEFI V10; Towing capacity: 9,600-11,000 lbs
  • Engine: 6.0L V8 DI Turbo Diesel; Towing capacity: 11,000 lbs
So, you’ll have to ask what the Excursion you’re considering has under the hood. Just be wary that all that towing power comes with pretty dismal fuel economy, even with the diesel engine.
