How exciting! The best year for a used Mazda Miata depends on what features, power, and style you’re looking for. That said, the following model years tend to be the most popular amongst Miata enthusiasts:
- 2004 Mazdaspeed MX-5 Miata: the most powerful Miata ever produced, the 2004 model hits 178 hp and 166 lb-ft of torque in its 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine. Suspension upgrades, wider tires, and Bilstein shocks also help make this Miata a timeless gem.
- 1999 Mazda MX-5 Miata: The 1999 Miata introduced a newer, sleeker look for the second generation and improved performance. Bonus points if you can snag one of the 10th anniversary models with six-speed manual transmission (as opposed to the standard five).
- 1990 Mazda MX-5 Miata: if you’re looking for an original, you can’t beat the classic 1990 Miata. Here you’ll find the pop-up headlights, rounded bumper, and Alpine cassette player you’d expect from the Miata’s distinct early years.
