The last time I took my car to the shop, they charged me for a new “water pump.” I don’t really know much about cars, but it seems odd to me that a car would need a water pump. What does a water pump do in a car?

As a matter of fact, the water pump is one of the most crucial components in a car. It has a few functions but its main purpose is as part of your coolant system. The water pump circulates coolant fluid throughout the engine so that it does not overheat.
