Is a Mazda RX-8 a good first car?

I just got my license! I have a part-time job near my high school and I’m saving up to buy a used car so I can stop taking the bus to and from work. I just came across a sale ad online for a Mazda RX8 and it looks so cool! Is a Mazda RX-8 a good first car?

Congratulations on getting your license! While the Mazda RX-8 certainly looks cool—it’s not a good first car for novice drivers.
Firstly, the RX-8 is a sports car, so we’re guessing your parents wouldn’t want their teen driver zipping in and out of traffic, as the temptation to see how fast it can actually go would be great if you’ve got the need for speed.
Secondly, as a sports car, an RX-8 won’t be cheap to maintain. You can expect to pay high
car insurance
rates as well.
Lastly, the RX-8 provides poor fuel economy! When you
buy your first car
, you’ll want a vehicle that’s practical, easy to maintain, and will save you money at the pump.
You might want to consider a
Honda Civic
or a
Toyota Prius
for a first car instead.
