How much is a sound system for a car?

I’m a bit of an audiophile and the sound system in my car leaves much to be desired. I think I’m going to upgrade my audio system, but I need to create a budget beforehand. What’s the average cost for a car sound system?

Generally speaking, a sound system for a car costs between about $100 to $3,000, depending on the brand and what you decide to buy.
If you just switch out the old head unit, this can cost about $100 to $200. But if you add new speakers, an amplifier, tweeters, and a subwoofer, you can reasonably expect to pay thousands of dollars, especially if you hire a company to do the installation.
If you’re on the low end of the budget spectrum, here are a few brands to explore:
  • Rockford-Fosgate
  • Pioneer
  • Kicker
  • Hifonics
For buyers who have no budget, some mid- to high-range options for your audio needs are:
  • Bang & Olufsen
  • Harman Kardon
  • Bose
  • JBL
  • Alpine
  • Boss Audio Systems
If you’re going with a high-end brand, you may want to consider
sound system coverage
for your vehicle. This add-on insurance policy will help you pay for repairs if something breaks or you blow an amp or speaker. The best place to find this coverage at a reasonable price is with the
