How do you manually put a 2011 BMW X5 in neutral?
My 2011 BMW X5 wouldn’t start the other day, and I needed to get it loaded onto a flatbed, but I couldn't get it into neutral. How do you put a 2011 BMW X5 in neutral?

- Take the key fob and remove the key
- Open the trunk
- Locate and open the emergency kit located on the top of the trunk
- Get the tow bar and gear release tool (orange)
- Remove the plastic cover from the cupholder
- Take the orange tool and stick it into the emergency gear release hole
- Turn it to the right and push down to lock it in place
- Your car should be in neutral
BMW doesn’t provide specific instructions for how to shift your car into neutral with a dead battery, so confirm with your owner’s manual or contact your local BMW dealership for help.
