How do you change the oil in a Ford Fusion?
I want to start changing my own oil, but I’ve never done it before, and I really don’t want to mess it up. How do you do an oil change on a Ford Fusion?

It’s great that you want to start doing your own oil changes! You’ll save a bunch of money and learn a lot about your car.
- 5 quarts of new 5W-20 oil
- Funnel
- Oil drain pan
- Cup-style oil filter wrench or strap wrench
- Metric open-end wrench set
- New oil filter
Here’s what to do:
- Get under your Ford Fusion (if you have jacks, use them)
- Your Fusion may or may not have an oil filter cover. If it does, unscrew and remove it.
- Put the oil drain pan in place to catch the old oil
- Use the wrench to remove the oil drain plug
- Remove the oil drain plug to let the oil drain into the pan until it stops
- Remove the oil filter
- Clean the oil filter cover and the place where it seals to the car
- Lubricate the o-ring with new oil, then use the oil filter wrench to install the oil filter
- Reinstall the drain plug and if necessary, the oil filter cover
Now you’ll add new oil:
- Use the funnel to add 4.5 quarts of new oil
- Replace the oil filler cap and close the hood.
