Can you tell me how to change the battery of my BMW car key? It hasn’t been working for me lately. I think it just needs a new battery, but I don’t want to break it.
Press the metal tab located on the side of your key fob to release the metal key.
When you remove the key, there should be a small gap in the key fob that you can use to pry the fob open. Use a small flathead screwdriver or a similarly shaped tool to help you with this. If you’re worried about scratching your key, you can wrap the screwdriver in tape to protect the casing.
If your key doesn’t pop open, you might have a rechargeable key. To recharge it, drive your car. Your battery will recharge as you do so.
If your key does pop open, you can remove the old battery. Make sure to note where the positive and negative ends of the battery sit, as you’ll need to place your new battery in the same way.
Place your new battery carefully into your key fob, ensuring the positive and negative ends are oriented correctly.
Press the two halves of the key fob back together and replace the metal key.
After that, you’re all done, but make sure to test your key before putting away your tools to ensure everything is working!
