How do you use 4 wheel drive in a Toyota Highlander?

I’m going on a ski trip with some friends, and I’m a little nervous about driving in the snow. My mom said that I’ll have more control if I turn on four-wheel drive in my car, but I don’t know how! What’s the best way to use 4WD in a Toyota Highlander?

Four-wheel drive is a great feature for winter driving, as it helps you gain traction and power in icy conditions. Plus, it’s easy to activate!
Here’s how to turn on 4WD in your Toyota Highlander:
  • Step 1: Turn on your car.
  • Step 2: Press the button labeled 4WD on your gear shift.
  • Step 3: Your car should switch to four-wheel drive.
  • To turn off four-wheel drive in your

: Hit the same 4WD button again.
Keep in mind: Four-wheel drive is convenient for handling tough terrain, but it also burns gas much faster than you normally would. So, make sure you have plenty of fuel and try to only use four-wheel drive when you need more control.
If your Toyota Highlander is equipped with 4WD or AWD, it should generally engage as the default whenever you get behind the wheel. Depending on your model year and other configurations, you may also have additional driving modes to choose from, including for snowy conditions.
For more information about your Highlander’s AWD system and driving modes, as well as how they work, consult your owner’s manual.
