How do I repair a burnt leather car seat?

I recently bought a used car with leather seats, and for the most part, they’re in good condition. The only problem is the previous owner used to smoke, and there are a few cigarette burns on the driver’s seat. How do I fix the burnt leather?

In your case, a small burn on a leather car seat isn’t too hard a fix, and can be repaired with a leather repair kit. These aren’t very expensive and you should be able to find one online or at your local auto shop. Most kits contain a canvas sub-patch, a clear adhesive and filler, and several colors of repair compound.
After you’ve obtained a repair kit, start by cutting out the burned leather and insert the sub-patch under the leather, ensuring at least a 1 cm overlap on all sides. Then, apply the adhesive along the hole’s underside edges and firmly affix the patch. Wait 20 minutes for the glue to dry.
Now you can begin filling the hole. Use a small knife to apply filler into the hole, wiping out any excess. You’ll then need to use a hairdryer to dry the filler for at least three minutes, pressing down as you do so. Repeat this process until the filler reaches just below the surface of the leather. The last layer will be applied over the edges of the hole, to ensure everything is level.
Once the last layer is dry, you can mix and apply the color compound with a cotton swab to disguise the repair.
Now your leather seat should look good as new!
