I’m heading to Europe in two months and I would like to rent a car for convenience. I want to be prepared before I go over. How can I get an international driving permit?

Although the public transport system in Europe is good, renting a car is more convenient! As long as you have a valid driver’s license, you can get an international driving permit (IDP) in person or by mail through the American Automobile Association (AAA).
Here’s how to apply.
In-person—you will need to bring:
A completed copy of the IDP application
Two original passport photos (can be obtained at your local AAA branch)
A valid United States driver’s license
$20 permit fee
By mail—collect the following items and mail them to your local AAA branch:
Completed IDP application
Two original passport photos with signature on the back
$20 permit fee
Photocopy of both sides of your valid U.S. driver’s license
