How can I check the tire pressure on a Honda Accord?

How do I check the tire pressure on a Honda? I spent the weekend at my family’s cabin in the mountains to go snowboarding. On my way home, I noticed one of the tires was under-inflated. I want to go to a gas station to fill it back up, but I’m not sure how to check the pressure so I know when to stop.

Good question! Knowing how to properly inflate your
tires
is essential.
To check the tire pressure on a Honda Accord, follow these steps:
  • Step 1: Unlock your vehicle and get into the driver’s seat. Put the key into the ignition and give it a half-turn to access accessory mode. Essentially, you’re turning the car on without starting it.
  • Step 2: Look at your dashboard and check if the Tire Pressure Monitoring System light is on. If it is on, this means one (or all) of your tires has low pressure.
  • Step 3: Check the tire wall or refer to your owner’s manual for the recommended pressure level of your specific tires. Alternatively, you can look at the sticker on the driver’s side of the door jamb. This label indicates the suggested pressure level for your tires, too.
  • Step 4: It is good practice to check the tire pressure of every tire even if only one tire seems to be under-inflated. Working one tire at a time, locate the valve cap on the tire and unscrew it.
  • Step 5: Take a tire pressure gauge and press it against the valve stem. Adjust the gauge until there is no hissing sound from the tire. Next, look at your tire pressure gauge and read the value displayed. Repeat this process a couple times per tire to make sure the value is correct.
  • Step 6: Use an air compressor at a gas station to
    add air
to any tires that need it. Place the nozzle on the valve stem similarly to how you did with the tire pressure gauge. Adjust it until you hear no hissing sound from the tire. Periodically, use the tire pressure gauge to check if you’ve inflated the tire enough.
