How can I appeal a revoked driving license based on medical grounds?
I had my driver’s license revoked last week after an accident. However, I don’t feel like my license should have been taken away. I have a problem with my eyesight (astigmatism), which may have contributed to the accident, but my eye doctor says I’m OK to drive. Can you get around a medically restricted driver’s license?

Sorry to hear about your accident! The good news is that you can appeal a revoked driving license based on medical grounds in most states.
Since astigmatism is a common problem that’s often overcome with prescription eyewear, you shouldn’t have an issue getting your license back—so long as you can provide a doctor’s note and pass a driving test.
Some states may also require you to file periodic medical updates to prove you can drive. Contact your local DMV to find out. If this is required, stay on top of the updates to ensure your driver’s license isn’t revoked again for the same reason.
If your state doesn’t have mandatory medical updates, you can usually file an appeal to have your revoked license reinstated. The process varies from state to state, so call your local DMV to see what you need to do to appeal.
