How bad is the penalty for driving 100 mph?
I was recently pulled over for speeding and the officer said that I was driving 102 mph. I’m worried that I’m going to have to pay a lot or have my license suspended. What are the consequences of driving over 100 mph?

When it comes to the penalties that you could face for driving over 100 mph, they tend to vary pretty significantly by state. States have different thresholds for speeding violations that come with different consequences.
For example, a state might have different violations based on the following criteria:
- For drivers going under 15 mph over the limit
- For drivers going between 16 to 30 mph over the limit
- For drivers going 30+ mph over the speed limit
In most places, driving 100 mph probably means you were going 30+ over the limit. Some of the penalties you can expect for that are:
- A fine of anywhere between $100 to $1000
- Demerit points added to your record
- The potential suspension of your license
If you have a clean record otherwise, there is a good chance that you might avoid having your license suspended. However, if you accumulate more points on your license, there is still a risk that it will be suspended for a while
